Weenie Roast Ride
Sunday, May 21, 2006
The weenie roast is a beautiful ride that we all look forward to and this year was no exception. This year we reversed the direction of the ride and rode to Delta, Montrose, Ridgeway, over Dallas Divide and down the San Miguel Canyon. The scenic vistas are always spectacular in this part of the state and Mt. Sneffels is an impressive peak and one of the 53 fourteeners in the state and stands alone as the highest peak in this part of the San Juan range. It stood majestically poised after shedding most of its winter snow pack against a clear blue sky as we rode past.
Bill and Jean Gert were our heroes and brought their trailer filled with goodies for the feast on the San Miguel River. Isakson’s were having issues with their Harley and caught up to us at the flume overlooking the Dolores River on a loaner Road King. I’m pretty sure that Deb has been pampered because there was a bit of whining going on about the uncomfortable seat. Deb is tough, however, and worked through the pain.
An interesting note was that on the previous Thursday, Neil and I did a dry run. We missed the turn which is easy to do when coming down the canyon and had to turn around to get to the site. On the day of the ride down the canyon, we missed the same turn and got to turn everybody around to get to the site.
We had a beautiful day for the ride, good food, good company and a great ride.
